Cheshire Home Birth Alliance - Launch Statement

Published on 16 February 2026 at 11:03

Birth is a profound life event — not only for parents and babies, but for families, communities and the systems that care for them.

Across Cheshire, many people who want to give birth at home still face barriers: inconsistent access, unclear information, and a lack of joined-up local support. This can leave families feeling unheard, unsupported, or unable to make genuine choices about where and how they give birth.

The Cheshire Home Birth Alliance exists to change that.

We are a growing alliance of parents, birth workers and community allies who believe that safe, respectful, person-centred care includes meaningful choice of birthplace, including home birth, for all who want it. We recognise that choice is shaped by inequality, and that not everyone has equal access to information, advocacy or support.

Our purpose is to listen, connect and work collaboratively to:

  • improve access to home birth across Cheshire

  • amplify lived experience and local knowledge

  • support informed decision-making

  • and advocate for maternity care that is equitable, compassionate and community-rooted

We are not here to tell anyone how to give birth.
We are here to support choice, dignity and care, in all their forms.

Launched on Christmas Day 2025, the celebration of the most well-known home birth in history, this alliance begins quietly, with an invitation:
to listen, to learn, and to build something better together.
