Our beginning: A shared vision

The Cheshire Home Birth Alliance was born from a collective concern among a group of doulas and friends. Witnessing a decline in local home birth rates, we felt compelled to act. Inspired by a TEDx talk on the power of play to drive change, our ambitious goal emerged: to establish Cheshire as the leading region for home birth in the UK. From this aspiration, our alliance was formed, dedicated to making home birth a celebrated and accessible option for all.

At Cheshire Home Birth Alliance, our primary aims are clear and focused. We are committed to improving the availability of safe and supportive home birth midwifery care across the region. Our efforts are dedicated to increasing the number of babies born at home, empowering families with this choice. Ultimately, we strive to celebrate and normalise home birth in Cheshire, ensuring it is recognised as a positive, safe and sustainable option for expectant parents in Cheshire.

The foundation of Cheshire Home Birth Alliance rests on a strong set of principles that shape everything we do. We are proudly anti-racist, LGBTQIA+ inclusive, and feminist in our approach. Our work is trauma-informed, ensuring sensitivity and support for all families. We believe in collaborative efforts, working together for greater impact, and are always evidence-led, basing our practices on the latest research. We are committed to continuously improving and learning, striving for equity in all aspects of home birth care.
